Far be it from me to tell
you what to do, but you might want to mosey on over to the Michigan
Amateur Hockey Association website and check out some of the proposed rule changes
that are going to be voted up or down in July 2010. Because some
of those rule changes will affect girls and women's hockey. Since
there is only one person voting on behalf of "girls/women's hockey"
whereas there are numerous people who vote based upon the "districts"
(which typically cater strictly to youth boys hockey), your voice can
best be heard by bending the ear of your district
representative(s). If you don't feel like sifting through the
whole pile of proposed rule changes, don't worry: I've got a handy voting guide for you to refer to.
Well, to be technical, you can't "vote" but you can lobby
your district rep to vote yea or nay.

"House" hockey means playing at the same rink all the time, and "travel" means, well, traveling around for your games. For adult women, travel is the Michigan Senior Women's Hockey League. There are about forty teams ranging from beginner level to those vying for seediing in to the USA Hockey National Tournament. For girls, there are "club" travel teams that typically have 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U and 19U teams competing at the AA and AAA level through the Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League. Nearly all of the girls' travel teams vie for state and national tournament seeding. There are also high school affiliated teams (even if you can't technically 'letter' in hockey...yet) through the Michigan Metro Girls High School Hockey League. The high school teams have
